Tracking the Taliban: Vaughan Smith's video report from Helmand Province

| 2

I have just returned from a second trip with the Grenadier Guards, who I visited in Helmand in 2007.

They are now in Nadi Ali, in Helmand province, Afghanistan. I was there for a month, but my computer got waterlogged and so I haven't posted anything to my blog from there so far. However, I am going to push out my material here over the next couple of weeks.

My first piece is about 2 Section of 6 Platoon, C Company, 1 Royal Anglians. They patrol out of Patrol Base Paraang on the southern edge of a village in Nadi Ali district called Kushal Kalay. They are tasked with keeping the Taliban out of Kushal Kalay so that other soldiers can more safely clear it of IED's. The section commander is 22 years old.

The story was on Channel 4 News last Saturday evening. You can watch it above or follow the link. As Nico Pitney comments on the Huffington Post,

One hesitates to extrapolate much from one brief glimpse into the fighting in Afghanistan. But this clip does give some sense of why the world's most advanced militaries are so challenged by these Taliban fighters. link

I plan to put up an extended version over the coming days. But next is another film going out on Channel 4 News, probably tonight, Thursday 18th February so keep watching this blog for more.

Very poignant. Hard to believe these guys go out day after day risking their lives. Really brings the horror and difficulty of war to the masses at home. Fabulous journalism.

light smith, the idea that information is the real resource of human beings in the universe.

That to die if you need be for this reasoning to share like bees wiggling into reason is paramount.

Humans were put on this planet to agree and unite. The only problem is this can only happen with truth.

The reluctancy to unite and give up on finding the truth is the way of failure.

To find that which explains the universe in a way that we all can agree is the path to world happiness.

I agree with mr. smith's vision of information seeking as the greatest path a human can take for fellow humans.

I unite and have joined this site to do my part to help make the world a happier place while we have this short
time to act as humans, before it is taken away by gravity and returns us into sun light. Share the light, unite.

I have ask the final cut pro Los Angeles group at the last meeting that was the anniversary of 10 years
to make the motto of all the groups, " Unite the world" I also ask you to do the same and if all the groups
in the world use this motto, we die die liberated for the children of the world will have less to fight over.

unite the world !

What do you think?
