Jaime FlorCruz working the China beat

| 1

Jaime FlorCruz, CNN Beijing bureau chief, talks about life of a foreign correspondent in China in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The 57 year old FlorCruz has been based in China for the past seven years,
“It took time and effort to overcome professional and nationality-related barriers, to stare down political biases and racial stereotypes … I did not hold an Ivy League degree, I did not attend journalism school and English was not my mother tongue,” FlorCruz said. According to him, CNN took a risk when it offered him the job in 2001. But the 24-hour Cable News Network believed in him and his expertise that it whisked him to New York for voice coaching. “They said, ‘Go, you’ll learn TV while doing it,’” he recounted. link

Dear Mr. Jaime,

Your life story was really interesting, fulll of hardships and sacrifice not coming home for a long time. Finding refuge

i China where you became very succesful as a journalist. I

admire your courage and determination. We had alot in common

though. We both went to the same university, though i graduated bachelor in broadcast communication. Had work in GMA7 in 6 years as segment producer for a showbiz talk show. I also studied chinese (mandarin & fookien)on my 7 years elementary (kinder to grade 6). But after primary school i could no longer practice my chinese so i totally forgotten the language, though i still remember some upto now. Right now I'm presently working in Saudi Arabia were I learn to speak conversational arabic and french. But i greatest dream in life is to be part of CNN and grow in the field of broadcasting. I wonder if you could help me. I'm willing to be send off to troubled countries for reporting or any work related in broadcasting. thank you & more power to you.
