Third party event: Democracy and the Media in Africa

On 9 February 2005, BBC Africa Producer Kate Peyton was shot dead while on assignment in Mogadishu. Her family are hosting this event to launch a fund in her name.

Kate’s Fund for Africa

We will support locally inspired projects delivering informal public education in Africa. These may make use of broadcasting, print journalism, theatre, the electronic media, or other vehicles for the written and spoken word. By identifying engaging and accessible cultural projects, and operating on the basis of equality between individuals regardless of sex, religious status or ethnicity, we hope to enable opportunities for the free exchange of ideas.
