In view of the current situation between Sudan and Chad, FIFA has decided to suspend the 2010 FIFA World Cupâ„¢ preliminary competition game between Sudan and Chad, which was originally scheduled to be played on 31 May 2008.

In this case the “current situation” is a euphemism for the two countries having closed borders, suspended diplomatic relations and threatened all-out war after Chad-backed rebels fought their way into Omdurman as part of an attempt to take the Sudanese capital earlier this month. In a neat twist the match was also due to be played in Omdurman.
