Special Preview Screening: Armadillo
Armadillo is director Janus Metz‘s breathtaking observational documentary about a group of young Danish soldiers on their first mission in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province.
Metz captures the transition of the soldiers from young men hungry for action to their positioning as part of a vast military machine. As each character’s story unfolds on screen, the development of the psyche of a soldier is revealed.
After winning the Grand Prix de la Semaine de la Critique at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, Armadillo caused political controversy in Denmark because of the depiction of a shoot-out with a guerrilla Afghan group.
Tense and guttural, Armadillo has been described as “journey into the soldiers’ minds” giving a unique perspective on the experience of war.
