Screening – Enemies of the People
Enemies of the People is an intimate and extraordinary film which explores, from the top down, the people responsible for massacring Cambodians in the killing fields of the Khmer Rouge.
The film follows Thet Sambath on his quest to find those responsible for the killings to discuss what really happened during the violent years of the Khmer Rouge. Sambath’s journey leads all the way to Brother Number Two who admits for the first time how he and Pol Pot (the two supreme powers in the Khmer Rouge state) decided to kill party members whom they considered ‘Enemies of the People’.
Including interviews with even the provincial soldiers who murdered in the rice fields of Cambodia, Enemies of the People gives unprecedented access to one of the twentieth century’s most brutal regimes, balancing the atrocities committed by the interviewed with the bravery taken to admit culpability.
Directed by Rob Lemkin and Thet Sambath
