Journalists kidnapped in Somalia

As Graham has already noted, 2 foreign journalists were kidnapped yesterday just outside Mogadishu. It’s an interesting story because not only were they working with the fixer I use out there, but also they were working probably with the same interpreter, same security guards, and the same car Philip and I used when we were out there.

Philip and I travelled out to these IDP camps near Mogadishu 3 times while we were there. Here’s approximately where they must have been when they were kidnapped – if, indeed, this is what happened. I described back then a problem Philip and I had with some militia guys on that same stretch of road, and describe the whole range of characters we worked with. There’s all sorts of things that can go wrong out there…
