Journalist Diyar Abbas gunned down in Kirkuk
Diyar Abbas Ahmed, a journalist with Eye Media in Iraq, was reportedly gunned down in the northern city of Kirkuk on a day of attacks across the country killing at least 19 people,
The worst single attack was in Baghdad’s mainly Sunni quarter of Dora where a car bomb blast at a crowded market killed 13 people and wounded 27, police and the defence ministry said. In the northern city of Kirkuk, claimed by Arabs and Kurds, Iraqi journalist Diyar Abbas Ahmed, 28, was gunned down, police Brigadier General Torhan Yusuf said. link
Strangely there doesn’t seem to be any news of the killing on the Eye Media website, whereas AFP and the Canadian Press confirm the killing adding that Diyar was a Kurdish journalist.
UPDATE: As is often typical with early reports of killings, a slightly contradictory report – Diyar worked for Aien not Eye Media, it says – appears elsewhere. This time from Reuters,
An Iraqi journalist was killed on Friday in a drive-by shooting in the northern city of Kirkuk, police said. Diyar Abbas, a stringer for independent news agency Aien, was shot by armed men in a car as he left the office of a Kirkuk artists’ association on Friday evening. Abbas, a Kurd, was 28. link
