In the picture with John D McHugh: On the frontline in Afghanistan

John D McHugh set off in April 2007 for a nine month embed on the frontlines in Afghanistan. 5 weeks later he was caught in a major ambush and captured some rare combat photographs before being shot and seriously injured.

John D McHugh will show a selection of photographs from his entire trip, and during the slideshow will talk about why he planned such a long embed.  He will speak of the dangers of operating in the badlands of Afghanistan and discuss whether it is still possible to cover this important story without being embedded. He will also look at the role of the Afghan National Army and ask whether the coalition is fully behind them.
