The week ahead: Cold War, protests and Berlusconi’s media empire
This evening we are joined by journalist David E Hoffman to discuss his Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation into the relationship between US president Ronald Reagan and Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev in the dying days of the Cold War.
David E Hoffman’s book The Dead Hand: Reagan, Gorbachev and The Untold Story of The Cold War’s Arm’s Race is published by Icon Books.
You can listen to David E Hoffman‘s interview with John Humphrys on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme and here are reviews by Peter Preston in the Guardian and John Lloyd in the Financial Times.
Tomorrow’s event looking at if the internet will become the battleground of the 21st Century is fully booked.
Next week we will be examining the changing nature of the protests from London to Egypt and asking how – and if – the media can adapt and the following night we will be asking what the year ahead holds for the political situation in Zimbabwe.
Screenings will take us from the dark side of Italian TV culture centred on Silvio Berlusconi to what has been described as Australia’s ‘Inconvenient Truth’ the history of the Aboriginal people from colonisation to the present day.
