15 day threat to Somalia kidnap victims
According to a report from Press TV Iran’s correspondent in Mogadishu, the two journalists kidnapped in Somalia on August 23 – Amanda Lindhout and Nigel Brennan – will be killed if a $2.5 million ransom is not paid within 15 days. The National Union of Somali Journalists released a statement calling for the release of all the journalists kidnapped,
“The three journalists were committed to bring news and information about swiftly developing events in Somalia to audiences throughout the world. Their long-standing detention speaks to the deterioration working conditions for journalists operating in the country†said Omar Faruk Osman, NUSOJ Secretary General. “We urge all who are involved the negotiations for non-political reasons to use the full extent of their influences in this matter to ensure that three colleagues are immediately and unconditionally released†Omar Faruk declared. link
