As part of our Associate Membership programme The Frontline Club are proud to announce their first in an ongoing series of networking events.
We will start the evening with a panel discussion on the Role of Campaign films in Documentary, which will be chaired by Roger Graef (Films of Record) and joined by :
Hamish Mykura (Head of Documentaries and More4),
Havana Marking (Director of Afghan Star),
John Battsek (Executive Producer of The Age of Stupid)
Frontline are delighted to announce that this event will be sponsored by Chivas Regal and Beefeater Gin and a selection of their products will be served at the sponsored bar between 6.30pm and 9pm.
We will then be screening a series of short films,
Thorns and Silk by Paulina Tervo
Thorns and Silk tells four unusual stories from Palestine, featuring women who work in male-dominated jobs. All four have the courage to break traditional rules, but not without challenges. We dip into the life of a wedding filmmaker, who films women-only weddings in the most conservative part of the West Bank; hear the stories of a female taxi driver who works in the Israeli parts of Jerusalem; discover a young, dreamy police trainee at the national police academy and learn about the hardships in occupied Nablus, from a mother who takes on male roles to keep her family business going.

£19,000 Would Do it by Luke Douglas-Home
Following his shave with death in Transylvania, Luke Douglas-Home learnt about the paucity of Romanian medical care and started The Medical Trust (TMT) to try to alleviate it. Whilst in a coma, he was taken to hospitals in Brasov, Bucharest and London. This film shows one of TMT’s projects.

The events room and club bar will be open throughout with an informal atmosphere so that you will have a chance for the current members, new associate members and our invited guests can meet and talk. Numerous filmmaking organisations will be present for discussion.

I wish him success with the projects and a large audience.
I wish I could attend, for Luke's sake. Living overseas does not allow this. Luke's short film and the brief presentation he will make can in no way do justice to his extraordinary three-and -a-half year odyssey, that began with him suffering brain damage and at death's door (in a coma) for two weeks and saw him drag himself back by sheer stubborn guts into the land of the living and become the Luke who will address the audience today. He stands high as a man. Those of us close to him are in awe of what he has achieved in these few years. He deserves an even wider audience.
