Overseas Press Club Awards 2008

See what happens when you go away for a few days... Another award ceremony. This time the Overseas Press Club. The awards were announced last Friday. Journalists working in conflict zones dominate the winner's rostrum. Getty Images snappers scooped three photography awards and reporters on The New York Times received a total of six awards. Club members James Nachtwey and Tim Hetherington were announced winners. James received the prestigious 'President's Award', "in recognition of his unsurpassed contribution to international journalism. Tim received the 'Best TV spot news reporting from abroad' category,
Hetherington gives viewers a sense of the rarely seen enemy and the raw emotions of both civilians and soldiers. On one raid, Hetherington broke his ankle and had to walk four hours down a mountainside to reach safety. Their work displayed not only great personal courage but the power of great journalism. link
You can watch an interview with Tim at the Frontline Club where he discusses his work in Liberia. You can also listen to James talk about his work at TED Talks in 2007. Well done to all the winners.
