Khartoum cuisine

| 4

As far as I recall Khartoum didn't figure in the World's Best 50 restaurants this year and with highlights like the above it's no wonder. Frontline Club social network member Andrew Heavens takes the cork off the Sudanese dining scene after his recent move from Addis Ababa, where dinner time was somewhat different.

It would be nice to read more about Khartoum food than just a little blog about "nothing" I mean common they must have things about some good restarants.. Not every one in the city has to be horrible.. If so no one would ever want to eat out.. So think twice before writing about "nothing". Thanks!

I'm sure there are many, many wonderful restaurants in Khartoum and I'm sure Andrew will get to them when he has a chance...

Having survived the last 8 months in Khartoum I can say that there is a wide range of both local and western cuisine. Local food includes the ever present foul (baked beans), taamia (falafel), various BBQ sheep or beef that can be purchased in shawarma or even open fires etc etc. All the souks have these as well as upmarket western restaurants. These are in clusters eg Street 1 Amarat that hosts at least 30 that includes Aziz Pizza and Ivory Restaurant, Khartoum 2 region that also has Panda Chinese and Little India. Street 27 Amarat that has Italian, Airport Road that has Royal Roast for amazing chicken dishes. etc etc

If we knew he wanted some real kind Sudanese food .We would have served him better than the street food .Great home made dishes and original Sudanese hospitality at our open gate house .Any how it's un wise to make critisism of a nation's capital .
